Find Out more about Domains
Who registers my domain name
and who will own it?
Innovative Data Transfer will
register your domain name with Internic
but you will have full control and authority over the domain.
You will be listed as the owner, administrative, and billing contact.
Innovative Data Transfer will be listed as the technical contact.
Will I need to pay Internic
for the domain or does Innovative Data Transfer pay for
it?
Innovative Data Transfer can
register a domain name on your behalf for free. However, you,
the customer, will be responsible for paying the registration
and renewal fees for your domain with Internic. Internic will
charge you $70 US to register the domain which covers the first
two years. Thereafter, renewal fees are $35 US a year. You will
receive an invoice by postal mail and e-mail approximately 1-2
months after the domain is registered. You will be responsible
for remitting payment directly to Internic. More information regarding
Internic registration fees is available at Internic's
Web site.
What about trademarks?
Internic has taken a hands-off
approach to handling prior and pending trademark names when registering
new domain names. In most trademark cases, an infringement can
take place with words that sound similar, are spelled slightly
differently, etc. With Internic you can have a trademarked name
in your domain and they will register it to you without doing
any search. If another party protests your registration InterNIC
will let the courts decide if your domain name could belong to
another company/user. Not very good news if you spend lots of
time and energy promoting your domain name, only to have someone
come out of the woodwork and try to take it. There are several
court cases pending that could change how Internic awards domains.
For more details, refer to Internic's
domain name dispute policy.
How long does it take to register
or transfer a domain name?
Registering a new domain name
usually takes 24 hours, however, it can take longer depending
on many factors. We suggest you hold off printing your business
cards and letterheads until you receive official notice that your
domain has been registered.
Moving a domain is a little more
complicated and may take several days to several weeks. The process
will require acknowledgment and consent via e-mail from the domains
current administrative or technical contact. If this isn't possible,
Internic will accept acknowledgment by fax. Contact postmaster@inovadev.com
if you have questions about your particular situation.
Once your domain has been registered
or transferred by Internic it will usually take another 24-72
hours for the new address to update around the globe. During this
transition time some people will be able to see your Web site
but some may not, so a little patience will be required.
I'm moving my domain to Innovative
Data Transfer. How can I prevent disruption of service for my
visitors?
It usually takes 24-72 hours
for the new address to update around the globe after Internic
has made the changes to your domain address. Both your old site
and new site will be receiving traffic during the transition time.
Our suggestion is that you set up your new site as soon as possible
using the IP Address we give you. Keep your old site active during
the transition.
To ensure there is no interruption
to your e-mail service you should ensure you set up e-mail boxes
for all existing e-mail accounts before the completion of your
domain name transfer. During the transfer process you may want
to check both your old and new e-mail accounts.

it's own rules and regulations that must be met. If you want us
to host a national domain, please contact hostmaster@inovadev.com
